Template Tag Guide
This article explains the template tags used by Allsorter to populate information into your company templates, for both full reformat and preserve original templates.
The Allsorter Customer Success team replicates your branded template in our reformatting software by using these tags. If you have a self-managed account with "Template Access", you can use these tags to create and update your own templates.
Allsorter works off templates built in Microsoft Word by linking tags in the templates to fields in the system's front end. The font type, size, colour and spacing of text in the output is determined by the styling applied to these tags in Word. You will find more information on how the templating system works here: Template Fundamentals.
This article serves as a reference guide for all available tags used in template creation.
Tag Categories
There are three main tag categories that determine the editing capabilities within Allsorter.
- 🔺Plain Text Tag: You can only edit the text related to these tags in the front end. Bold, italic or underlined formatting is determined by the styling of the tag in Word and cannot be modified in the Allsorter edit panel.
-
◾ Rich Text Tag: These tags display as a rich text editor in the Allsorter editing panel, allowing you to apply basic formatting such as bold, italics, underline, or bullet points. You can also apply text transformation AI prompts to these fields.
-
🔹Dynamic Tag: Dynamic tags allow you flexibility to define section titles like the coversheet fields, extra sections, static sections, and field-level items like education and experience, directly within templates — with no pre-configuration needed in the Organisation Dashboard. These tags override defaults and set the section name as defined in the tag. You simply replace the text inside the square brackets [] with the output you desire.
In the next section, you will find a list of the available tags and their respective categories.
Make sure to copy only the tag, with no empty spaces on either side, and do not copy the category symbol with it.

Dynamic Tags
Dynamic tags allow you to define sections—such as coversheet, extra sections, static sections—as well as individual fields like experience and education, directly within your Word Full Reformat or Preserve Original template. No setup is required in the Organisation Dashboard beforehand. Find examples of how you can set up dynamic template tags here.
Date Tags
You can decide the format in which dates are displayed in your Full Reformat or Preserve Original template by using simple, customizable date tags for each of the following sections.
-
Experience Dates
-
Education Dates
-
Certification Dates
-
General Dates
You will find the date format tag library, guidance on how to customize the current job role, and options for choosing the separator between two dates in your template in the Date Format Tags article.
