Preview keeps loading or the exported file is corrupted

If the right-hand edit panel contains text, but preview keeps loading or the exported file is corrupted or opens with errors, the problem is usually caused by hidden formatting or unsupported characters pasted into a rich text field.

This most often happens when content is copied from:
  • the original resume view
  • a PDF or Word file on your device
  • another website or ATS
  • AI tools or external editors

Why this happens

Copied text can contain hidden characters, unusual bullet symbols, glyphs, or formatting that conflicts with the document output.

How to fix it

  1. Remove the affected text from the rich text field.
  2. Paste it back in as plain text.
    1. Windows: Ctrl + Shift + V
    2. Mac: Command + Shift + V
  3. If copying from within Allsorter, copy from the Extraction Analysis pane rather than the Original Resume pane.
  4. Use Fix Word Issues or the global AI Spelling & Grammar tool on the affected field to remove hidden formatting and unsupported characters.
  5. If the issue is related to bullets, apply Fix Bulletpoints. If bullet formatting disappears while editing, use Auto Bullet to restore structure.

Best practice

When copying text from inside Allsorter, always use the Extraction Analysis panel where possible, as this content has already been normalized for editing.
